Always Be Prepared (Part 1)

Always be prepared! That is the Boy Scouts Motto right? But what about you? Are you always prepared?

Today, Sunday, I am preparing enough food for my husband and I to last us until at least Wednesday. Then on Wednesday I will do the same to get us through the weekend. I am making sure we are PREPARED for anything that might fly our way during the week and try to de-rail us from keeping our eating healthy and clean.

When I prepare our food for the next 3-4 days I make sure it is all fresh ingredients that I know we will eat. I chop up any and all veggies we will be eating either in salads, soups or just by themselves and put them in air tight containers. I might go even further and portion them out for us. I grill/cook any meat we will be having. Very simple to grill 6-8 chicken breast and a bunch of hamburger patties all at once. Lastly, I make at least a dozen hard boiled eggs.

Great thing about all of this...I can do all of it at once! Once you get your rhythm down you can get all of it done within 1-2 hours. How great is that??!! One to two hours and you have enough food to last you for at least 3 days!!

Next I portion out the food in containers, especially for lunches. One of the biggest reasons I do this is because with our schedule we don't have much time in the morning. Sure we could get up earlier, but you know how great that snooze button is! So I portion everything out so all we have to do is open the fridge and take what we need. Simple! Now we have ZERO excuses for straying away from our healthy eating.

So let's review.... 1. First and foremost you must decide when you are going to do your preparation. Our best days are Sundays and Wednesdays. 2. ONLY buy what you know you will eat and make sure it is enough to get you through the next 3-4 days. 3. Now that you have the food, prepare it! Having it in the fridge won't help if you need to cut it up or cook it before you leave for your day. 4. If you know you need extra time in the morning, portion out everything you will need for while you are away for the day.
